School Closings on the Upper Cape
By: Enterprise Staff
Due to this weekend's blizzard Bourne Public Schools will be closed tomorrow Tuesday, February 12.
In announcing that closure, school officials said that some 45 percent of the Bourne community continues to be without power. Additionally they said that once power was restored at Bourne High School, it was discovered that pipes had frozen throughout the building.
While that situation was resolved today the problem contributed to the decision to keep schools closed for one more day. Bourne school officials also wanted time to address the large piles of snow around school driveways and parking lots for the visibility and safety of those coming to school on foot.
Sandwich Schools, also hit hard by the powerful Nor’easter, will be closed tomorrow as well. A burst sprinkler pipe at the Oak Ridge School caused extensive damage to the second floor of that school. School and town officials toured the damaged school today. There has been no word yet how school officials will deal with that situation.
Children in Falmouth hoping for another day off are out of luck as it will be business as usual as the administration has elected to open schools on their regular Tuesday schedule.
And finally in Mashpee, students should plan on returning to school as they are scheduled to reopen tomorrow.
