The Town of Barnstable's Independence Day Fireworks, set to begin at dusk Wednesday, July 4, will go on as scheduled. The fireworks are being shot off a barge in Lewis Bay at approximately 9 PM. Because of the rainy weather forecast, town officials met this morning at 6 to decide whether to hold the event.

Lynne Poyant, director of Community Affairs for the Town of Barnstable, said the decision was made to hold the event, rather than cancelling. The Main Street Parade, which kicks off at 4 PM will also take place as scheduled, except if there is thunder, Ms. Poyant said.
