It was a big day for challengers in the Barnstable Town Election tonight.

Town Councilors James Crocker Jr. of Osterville, James F. Munafo Jr. of Hyannis, and Henry C. Farnham of West Barnstable all lost their seats to challengers.

In Precinct 5, the vote was 780 for James Cote and 310 for James Crocker.

In Precinct 11, challenger June Daley received 502 votes to unseat Mr. Farnham, who received 437 votes.

In results forecast by the preliminary election in September, Michael P. Hersey prevailed in a three-way race in Precinct 3 against Mr. Munafo and Ryan C. Richardson.

Mr. Hersey received 258 votes compared to Mr. Richardson's 105 and Mr. Munafo's 98.

The only councilors who remain on the council who voted to buyout the contract of Town Manager John C. Klimm are Ann B. Canedy of Cummaquid and John T. Norman of Marstons Mills. Ms. Canedy won the race in Precinct 1 against Peter J. Leveroni of Barnstable Village by a vote of 610 to 449.

In the two races in which term limits meant there were no incumbents, in Precinct 7, Jessica Rapp Grassetti won the contest with 499 votes versus Peter Prygocki with 315; and Jennifer Cullum prevailed with 309 votes over Robert Jones with 186 votes.

In the race in Precinct 9, incumbent James M. Tinsley Jr. kept his seat with 138 votes against William Cronin who received 83 votes.

  1. Now that Barnstable voters have chosen to earnestly "clean house" via the recent election, perhaps the Barnstable Town Council can finally focus upon getting some sober and productive municipal work accomplished without all of the pungent rancor and grim discord previously instigated by the infamous "Gang of Six." At this point, I would like to specifically congratulate one of the newly victorious agents of genuine change, Precinct 11 Town Councilor-Elect June Daley. Good luck and God bless.
